Interventionist, ELA Teacher Leader & Teacher Partner

Stacey Katz, Literacy Interventionist

svkatz@aps.k12.co.us

Stacey KatzMy name is Stacey Katz and I have been teaching for twelve years.  Three of those years were in Aurora, at Arkansas Elementary.  This will be my first year as an interventionist at Vaughn.   I have also taught fourth through eighth grades in New York and Douglas County, Colorado before I took some time off to raise my own three children.  When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family!  My husband, Robert and I, have three children.  Our son, Sam is almost 15 and will be a freshman in high school.  We love watching him play baseball and will play at Mountain Vista High School in the spring.  Our daughter, Jaimie is 12, and is attending sixth grade and plays competitive soccer for REAL.  Our youngest daughter, Sydney is nine and is in fourth grade this year.  She also plays competitive soccer for REAL. I really enjoy watching them play and compete. I also love to spend time with my husband gardening in our backyard, going to the mountains and reading a good book! This summer we hiked Mt. Bierstadt, 14,060 ft. as a family. It was very challenging and my first fourteener.

I love teaching reading.   There is so much visible growth from the beginning of the year to the end.  I truly believe I am in one of the most rewarding professions!   Watching these young minds work inspires me to be the best educator I can be!  I love their enthusiasm, willingness to learn and positive energy.   I feel that giving students the ability to freely express themselves allows for individualism and personalized learning.  It also allows for inquiry and active student engagement!   I believe that one of the greatest contributions a teacher can give to a student is to build the foundational skills of personalized learning. I am so excited to be teaching at Vaughn this year.

My job is to accelerate learning for every APS student every day.  I do my job by reflecting, assessing and planning for precise instruction.
