Vaughn Parent YiYi Win Obtains her U.S. Citizenship with Help of English Classes Offered at Vaughn!

Vaughn Elementary merits itself on listening to our families in order to meet their needs.  Through our Title I survey that we pass out yearly, parents are able to give their input as to what they would like to see offered at Vaughn.  One of the requests was English Classes. Two years ago we were proud to bring in the Learning Source Family Literacy Program headed by Pamela Cole as the English Instructor.

During this time we have had parents take part in this program and succeed not only in improving their English skills but also their life in general. We are proud that one of our parents Yi Yi Win, mother of a 5th grade student at Vaughn was able to obtain her Citizenship with the help of our program.

The first time she tried she was unable to be clearly understood by the test proctor and therefore was unable to pass her citizenship test.  She didn’t give up and joined our English classes, patiently increasing her knowledge and her pronunciation.

With her hard work and determination YiYi passed her test the second time around and can now proudly introduce herself as a full-fledged American Citizen of the United States of America!
